Fortune Auto 510 Series coilovers feature “Ultra” Double Digressive Piston (UDDP) with revised shim stacks, this “Ultra” Digressive piston allows for massive amounts low speed rebound force that helps with driver inputs such as dive, pitch and roll. Furthermore, the rebound force greatly tapers off to provide the driver with a supple and compliant ride while maintaining superior mechanical grip over rough surfaces. To put things into perspective the 500 series has a very respectable 3k rate swing of rebound adjustment. The 510 has an unheard of 8k. The additional cost is worth it if it’s within your budget, but both are great coilover sets. You end up with more digression, more adjustment range and an overall better coilover set. The additional cost is mainly down to more expensive pistons and more dyno time.
Coilovers are not a one size fits all part. To get the results you are looking for it is mission critical to choose specifications and options that are appropriate for your personal goals and priorities. Rear Camber Plates
The rear of this application does not come with any camber adjustment from the factory. Even at factory ride height your camber is pretty much guaranteed to not be perfect. When you lower the car it makes things even worse. There are three possible ways of adding aftermarket camber adjustment. Inexpensive rear camber bolts are one option, but they often slip which can lead to very quick tire wear. They are also finicky to adjust, and they have a limited adjustment range. Adjustable lateral links are the next option. These are expensive, they are considerably heavier than the stock components, and many of the options on the market are problematic and can be noisy. The final option is camber plates which is the best option. They are reasonably priced, they are easy to adjust, they offer a lot of adjustment range and they don’t slip. Alignment is important. Improper alignment greatly adversely affects handling. It also affects tire wear. Prolonging tire life makes these rear camber plates one of the rare aftermarket upgrades that tends to pay for itself. We highly recommend this option.
Aluminum Damper Body Upgrade
Only available on double wishbone suspension applications. This would include the rear suspension of any 2008 plus Subaru as well as many other applications. This changes the material of the shock insert from steel to aluminum which has three major advantages. The first is it is lighter weight, the second is aluminum is very corrosion resistant and the third is aluminum does a better job of dissipating heat. The heat dissipation is particularly beneficial with double wishbone suspension since double wishbone coilover assemblies are typically shorter in length and therefore lower oil capacity. A worthwhile upgrade if it is within your budget.
Heim Joint Upgrade
Replaces standard lower mount bushings with spherical heim joint bearings. This removes all unwanted play between the shock assembly and lower control arm. If you track your car this upgrade will give you noticeably better handling. It’s difficult to articulate the difference you feel from the driver’s seat, but essentially you feel more connected to the car. When you are driving at the limit it will be a more confidence inspiring experience.
On some applications it is not possible to reach the rear damping adjustment without removing the back seat. Rebound extenders extend this rebound adjustment and allow you to more easily access it. On most typical sedan applications the extenders allow you to access the adjustment via the trunk.
Swift or Hyperco Spring Upgrade
Upgrading to one of these two brands has many advantages. Swift and Hyperco make some of the highest quality coilover springs in the world. They offer more accuracy than generic springs which essentially means they match the advertised rate and do not deviate much from that rate throughout the range of compression. More accuracy and consistency will give you significantly better handling. They also have less rate distortion which means the spring rate does not increase as much as the spring is compressed. This gives you considerably smoother ride quality. Hyperco is our preferred brand for a couple of reasons. They cycle the springs five separate times at the factory. This blocking process eliminates the sagging issue that most brands have. They also give you an industry leading plus minus 2% tolerance guarantee and lifetime warranty which is something that Swift does not do. Finally, Hyperco uses a separate coil wire diameter for every single rate which makes them the most accurate and the most consistent spring on the market. Both are excellent springs. You will be happy with whatever you choose, but people often ask us what our preference is. The answer is Hyperco. Hyperco is almost always the brand you will find on coilovers that cost more than $10k, and there is a reason for that.
Self Locking Lower Mount Collars
By default we include self-locking spring perches with every set free of charge. Upgrading the lower mount locking collar to self-locking will make things easier to adjust both during the initial installation and during any subsequent height adjustments. The standard locking rings require a hammer and a screwdriver for tightening. This is both less convenient than a cinch bolt and causes cosmetic damage to the lower mount locking ring. The self-locking version won’t slip, it will be easier to adjust if the threads are ever dirty and you won’t have to hammer away the finish every time you tighten them. This is not a must-have option, but it’s a worthwhile upgrade.
Remote Damper Controller
Also known as RDC this option gives you the ability to adjust all four dampers from the driver’s seat with the touch of a button. It features three separate user defined presets. This option can also be retrofitted in the future, so it’s a great option to be aware of whether you choose to add it to your initial coilover purchase or not. Being able to press a button and have all four shocks set to your preferred comfort, race or daily setup definitely beats getting out of the car and counting clicks. Very few of our competitors offer something similar.
There is no additional cost to customize spring rates, and unlike most other coilover brands Fortune Auto valves their shocks to match your desired spring rates. For most applications the Fortune Auto default rates are the most popular choice. Typically they do everything well. The default rates are soft enough that daily driving remains comfortable and stiff enough that the handling will be considerably better than stock with significantly less body roll. The default rates are also stiff enough to allow for a fairly aggressive drop in ride height. The default setup is a good compromise between all of these attributes, and it’s the most balanced setup. Coilovers are not a one size fits all product though, and that is why the custom rates are a no cost option.
Writing a spring rate technical article lengthy enough to address all possible scenarios is beyond the scope of this description. In short, if smooth ride quality for daily driving is a top priority you may want to consider softer spring rates than the default. How much softer to go is application dependent, but normally a 1k reduction in rate is sufficient. The downside of softening the rate is more body roll, but handling will still be considerably better than stock. If the best possible handling and minimal body roll are your top priorities you may want to consider going with a stiffer rate than the default. There are many factors involved in determining how much to increase rate for the best possible handling. The stiffer you go, the harsher the car will be on a bad road for daily driving. The final thing to consider is front to rear bias which affects the overall neutrality of the car and whether it is going to understeer or oversteer.

Radial Bearing Upgrade
Cygnus Performance includes a Koyo Japan radial bearing upgrade on all applicable applications for free (front McPherson strut applications). This radial bearing upper spring perch allows the shock insert and spring to rotate freely against the upper spring perch which both improves steering feel and eliminates spring bind popping noises.
Self-locking Lower Spring Perch
Cygnus Performance includes this upgrade both front and rear with every set. You no longer have to struggle with spanner wrenches and multiple collars. A simple allen head cinch bolt will quickly and easily lock preload in place.
